The Year-Old Cake

You all know the tradition - save the top layer of your wedding cake and eat it on your first anniversary. We didn't save the actual top layer of our cake, our cake person does a separate topper for you and wraps it up tightly for the year of freezing. She even put popcorn in the box with the cake which apparently helps keep the moisture in the cake.

We also couldn't remember what flavor this cake was! We chose different flavors for each layer and couldn't recall which we chose for our 1-year cake. So, we unwrapped the many, many layers of wrap and cut into the cake to find that it was chocolate with raspberry filling. We had heard horror stories about the cake tasting awful - and the fact that it had been in the outside freezer with Brett's shrimp and fish he keeps didn't make my hopes set high. However, we dug in anyways and it actually wasn't bad! In fact, besides the outer icing layer that didn't taste great, the inside was actually good! (In fact we may have had another slice the next night!)

It was so much fun celebrating our first anniversary with cake, champagne (our wedding glasses were in the attic so all we had on hand were uhhh "borrowed" Melting Pot glasses) and watching our wedding video. What a fun first year it has been and look forward to many, many more!
